Emotional Freedom Techniques
(also known as EFT or “Tapping”)
“The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system”
What is EFT?
We all have a life force, an energy that moves throughout the body and which is sometimes referred to as ‘chi’. The ‘meridian system’ is the system of channels through which this life force flows. It looks like a giant web and supplies vital energy to every part of the body. It has formed the basis of traditional Chinese medicine for centuries.
If there is a problem with the free flowing of this energy then the body’s health may be affected. Have you ever felt angry or upset resulting in a pounding headache, or been frightened to get on a plane or go for a job interview and felt your stomach churning? That’s a sign that energy is stuck somewhere. ‘Tapping’ helps balance things out, gets the energy flowing again and gives the body a chance to heal itself. It works on the same basis as acupuncture, but without the needles. EFT can be particularly helpful for people who have tried other therapies for a long-standing issue as this approach can be successful at getting to the root of the issue. There is increasing scientific evidence of the effectiveness of this method.
Who is it for?
EFT is a self-help tool which can be easily learnt and used by anyone. A child can learn to do the EFT basics and get good results with Tapping.
EFT can be used for many different situations including:
- fears and phobias
- stress and anxiety
- pain relief
- panic attacks
- anger management
- weight loss
The EFT premise also includes the understanding that the more unresolved emotional issues you can clear, the more peace and emotional freedom you will have in your life.

What happens during a session?
Sitting comfortably, we will discuss what is bothering you and ‘tap’ on it. Some problems may be difficult to talk about but the beauty of EFT is that it is not essential to divulge exactly what is causing the discomfort if you don’t want to.
How many sessions will I need?
Everyone is different and some problems more deep rooted than others. However, EFT has been known to work quickly and effectively.
What do I need to do after a session?
Drink plenty of water and keep well hydrated. (Water conducts electricity, and EFT accesses the electrical energy that flows through our bodies and minds.)
